Cattelan in Milan

Piazza Affari, the Stock Exchange and...Cattelan

A large classical stone building with columns and a provocative dark stone middle finger sculpture in front, under a blue sky.

Just a short walk from Milan Cathedral is Piazza Affari, the nerve center of the Milanese economy and of the entire country, as it is home to the Milan Stock Exchange. This historic square, dominated by the imposing Palazzo Mezzanotte, is the symbol of the city's financial dynamism and prestige, where capital and investments that influence the national and international economy move every day.

But Piazza Affari is not only finance: since 2010 it has also become a place of artistic provocation thanks to Maurizio Cattelan's sculpture entitled "L.O.V.E." (Freedom, Hate, Revenge, Eternity), better known as "The Finger." This 11-meter-tall white marble work depicts a hand with all fingers severed except for the well erect middle finger, and is a fierce critique of the world of finance and its contradictions.

Whether you want to admire the impressive architecture of the square or ponder the significance of Cattelan's work, Piazza Affari is a must-see for those who want to discover the more modern and controversial face of Milan.

A place where power, art and provocation meet in the heart of the city.
